I used to be laser-focused on being the best in whichever industry I wanted to thrive in. Eventually, this habit transformed me into a person filled with anger, jealousy, and selfishness. I was so focused on being the best that I neglected to stop and smell the roses—to enjoy the journey.

There's something interesting about watching someone work with their hands, seeing how they approach what they do, the little details they pay attention to, and the expressions they make along the way. These are the things that, to me, make a brand feel more human.

And I think this applies to almost every service-based business. Whether you're a photographer, personal trainer, hairdresser, designer, consultant, restaurant owner, or even a filmmaker, people aren't just paying for the thing you produce. They're paying for what it's like to work with you. That made me think about how I approach my own work.

Everything she had learnt as a photographer became part of how she approached her new work. And I think that's something we often overlook when we talk about changing careers or starting something new. We sometimes think we have to start from zero. But maybe that's not true.
