I Love Spending Time With My Family

There was something about Kai that caught my attention from the moment I met him.

He was quiet, a little mysterious, and completely comfortable just being himself. He was also surprisingly happy to have a camera around, which, if you've filmed enough children, you know isn't always the case.

We started the morning with pancakes.

Dad and Kai took over the kitchen while Mum was still asleep. Once breakfast was ready, they went to wake her up, and somehow this simple little morning slowly turned into a whole day of doing things together.

Kai coloured. He played board games with his parents. He sat at the piano with Mum. There was plenty of laughter, a little chaos, and lots of those small interactions that probably wouldn't seem particularly important if you weren't paying attention.

But that's what I was there for.

I wasn't trying to create a perfect family morning. I wanted to see Kai as he really was, how he interacted with his parents, how they played together, how Mum and Dad naturally became part of his little world.

And then, right at the end, there was a drawing Kai had made.

“I love spending time with my family.”

I didn't ask him to draw it. I didn't plan for it to be the ending.
But sometimes the best endings are the ones you didn't write yourself.
