Super Nintendo - a family film in Singapore

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this film has absolutely nothing to do with our beloved Super Nintendo gaming console.

I just happened to find a song called Super Nintendo, and somehow, it felt like the perfect soundtrack for this little family adventure.

This was a passion project I filmed with Shangri-La Singapore, following a family through their staycation from beginning to end.

And when I say beginning to end, I mean it.

We started with the check-in, followed them into their room, watched the kids explore, joined them for lunch, spent time at the playroom, and eventually ended the day with an evening picnic.

The kids, of course, were having the time of their lives.

The adults?

Well... they were getting sleepy.

I mean, five-star hotel, comfortable beds, good food, and no responsibilities for a day. Who wouldn't be?

What I liked about filming this wasn't really any single activity. It was watching the energy of the family change throughout the day.

The kids started with endless energy. Running around, playing, exploring, asking for more things to do.

Then slowly, the day started winding down.

Dinner. A little more play. Getting the kids ready for bed.

And finally, silence.

The kids were asleep, and Mum and Dad stepped out onto the balcony with a couple of glasses of champagne.

After following this family around all day, it suddenly felt like the film had exhaled.

No more running around. No more activities. No more trying to keep the kids entertained.

Just the two of them, sitting outside, having a drink and enjoying a rare quiet moment together.

And that's probably my favourite part of the film.

Because a family staycation isn't really about all the things you get to do.

Sometimes, it's about having an entire day together...

and finally getting a few quiet minutes for yourselves.
